Squaring Up- Follow up!

When I wrote here about squaring up I shouldn't have.
Well, it was my fault for not reading more carefully.  The directions were right there for all to see.  You know what they say about people that assume.
Instead of 17" blocks I have 16 1/2" blocks so now my quilt is 2 1/2" smaller than it should be and I have to figure out what to do about the borders.
Any suggestions?

  1. My blocks will be smaller too Nancy. Right from the very start I knew that, but went ahead. that is why I have not started the borders. I want to put those blocks together first.

  2. What about putting all of the blocks together and then a narrow border before the called for border ? Then you would have the correct size for the applique border.

  3. I thought about a narrow border but it would only end up being 3/4" wide and I can't picture how that would look.
Sure wish I had that last block.

  4. You can add small coping strips around some blocks and make the quilt big enough. Or just adjust the borders slightly to fit your top. I have done that. I squared off a block once half an inch too short and now the very thin copying strip is one of my favorite features on the quilt. No matter what you do; you will have a gorgeous and unique quilt.

  5. Since it is just vines, I'm sure you can adjust them to make it fit the quilt! a few leaves and berries will just be closer together...
