Opinions Wanted

This is my next block that is just laid out, nothing is set in stone here. I am unsure about the vase. Do you think it is too light? Maybe it should be a darker fabric? I really like this red dot fabric and really want to use it but I am questioning the value of it.
I may or may not change it but thought I would ask. Thanks!

  1. I think it is cute but how about laying out your other blocks with it. That may give you a better idea if you want to keep it or change it out.

  2. I like it, it has a wow factor to it, but I think Lori is right, put your other blocks out and see if it works. Also, what about putting solid red behind the cut outs of the vase? That might darken it up a bit.

  3. I agree with Lori and Sharon. Put the block up with the other blocks and you may get a better idea. At the moment, it could be that you feel the block is slightly "unbalanced". Perhaps you could cut a strip of the solid red and lay it along the base of the vase and see if that evens things up. Just a suggestion.
I also love the vase fabric and would love to see it used here.

  4. I love dots! The problem I think with this block is that the basket and the flowers that come down onto it, need to have good contrast, otherwise they will just disappear.

  5. I love it actually, when I take my glasses off and squint at it, it looks great so with the other blocks I think it'd be fine. One thing you may want to consider is to lay a length of red perle or floss around the outline of the vase and consider maybe adding an outline stitch like stem stitch, it could resolve that dilemna you're having.

  6. It's a bit 'bright' for me. If the rest of your blocks were Kaffe Fasset kind of fabric it would fit in.
    sorry!

  7. Janet I love the idea of using red perle for the outline...I think that may just be the ticket...thanks!
I did lay it out with my "other blocks" but I only have 2 so it is not a lot of help!! I think I may just go with it and if worse comes to worse change it if it doesn't work!

  8. You know....it's funky and I like it. I think in the grand scheme of it all, you will love it. I would keep it and if at a later day, you could always add some more fabric to it to do whatever it needs. believe me, I am keeping a block or two that I just wasn't sure about, but when they are all together, I am sure they will look fine.

  9. Just love it - please keep it the way it is! Your quilt is full of whimsy and fun and this block has captured that completely!

  10. So now I'm curious to find out what your decision was. I liked the vase, but thought it might be too much with the dots on the background fabric, too.
