Block 18

Block 18

This block just didn't get me excited.  It's really close, if not identical, to blocks I've made for other quilts so maybe that was it.  It's been up on my design board for over a week, waiting to be photographed.  It was a fairly easy block.  The only part I even had to think about was the buds.  I threw in some of the lighter green from last month's block to tie it in with the rest of the quilt.

For those of you who back baste, I have a question I've not seen addressed.  What do you do for fussy cutting?  The rest of the process makes sense but I have no idea how you tackle that.

  1. Well you may not be excited about this block, but I think it turned out great. I can't wait to get back to mine.

  2. It is a beautiful block! I can only aspire to have my applique lay as smoothly as yours...practice, practice. I have also wondered if there was a special trick to fussy cutting when back basting...When I wanted a certain area of my fabric to be placed on one of the vases I just did, I ended up making a plastic template pattern and positioning it on the fabric to cut it out. Then I just putzed around with it, pinning it in place and constantly checking the alignment holding it up to the light and viewing it from the back. What a pain! I got the design area where I wanted it but there must be an easier way??

  3. For fussy cutting I find a fabric about the size I want, put a pin through the centre, hold it up to the light, (or put on a light box) then slip the pin into the centre of the drawing. Pin in place, and tack the drawing as usual. It usually works for me.

I have only a couple of flowers to go on this one. i have been side-tracked with other inspirational projects.

  7. Yup, I do like Wendy! The easy blocks are nice to do, kind of like mindless chain piecing. relaxing.
