Got the family to hold up my quilt (sans binding) in 102 degree weather.
Here's a close up.
I have red, straight on grain, binding cut out for this, but now that I see it all done, I am thinking I would rather have my cream/taupe (bias). So, I will use the red binding for my Swoon quilt that I am making with my left over French General fabric and see what I have left in my neutrals to make a new binding.
The corners of this quilt will be curved, so I am thinking I will feel more comfortable using bias and I think the neutral binding would look a little more classic on this quilt.
I love everything about your quilt! The fabrics are just perfect together, and beautiful quilting! If it ever needs a new home, I'd love to provide one! ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the neutral binding. If you curve the corners, then use bias. I'm going to bind mine in the background fabric, most vintage photos show this as well. Beautiful job, I sewed on 2 borders today and prepped the 3rd one. I want mine finished now that I see yours!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea for your binding too, it's such a beautiful quilt, a real heirloom.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful. I love your quilt. your color and fabric choices are just perfect and I agree with the cream bias binding. Who ever quilted it did a great job.

I LOVE your quilt. I have been waiting for you to post the entire quilt. I am also using different backgrounds and I was thinking about piecing the border. Now I know that I want to do that. I have enough for one color border; but I like yours so much. I think you are right about the cream binding. But do what makes you happy. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
ReplyDeleteOMG, this is a stunningly beautiful quilt! I love all the different backgrounds you used - it really gives the quilt depth and more interest. I like your idea of rounded corners and the light bias binding. What a super job you did!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I concur with Sharon. The variety of backgrounds you used adds depth!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your kind compliments. They are greatly appreciated. Still thinking of doing my binding and have narrowed it down to a couple different fabrics. Still too hot to work on binding this heavy quilt right now. Soon though.
ReplyDeleteThanks once again for sharing your pictures. Your quilt is lovely. I am so inspired to continue on mine. I also decided to collect some French General fabrics for a future quilt. Thanks for the inspiration.
