Block Seven
I finished block seven last week. I think this is one of my favorite blocks so far. Once again I didn't do the embroidery. I like everyones blocks with the embroidery but I just don't enjoy doing it so I chose to use the bias strips. It was a little tricky making them so small but but I am happy with the way it turned out. One question....are you making the blocks wonky like the pattern are do you straighten out the vines and center up the circles and flowers? My circles are a little off center on the basket but they were that way on the pattern.

Love your block and I think it looks great with the bias as the cherry stems. I am making proper circles for the spine of the wreath blocks. On this block I also tucked the stems "inside" the bowl and I will probably not put 120 circles on the grapes block. Do what feels right for you, it's a beautiful project and all of them will look different when finsihed.
ReplyDeleteYour block looks wonderful & changing the stems to bias vs. embroidery is a nice touch. Each of us will do our own interpretation. I have been following the patterns fairly close but making a few adjustments along the way...skipped over to #16 and while doing the interwoven wreath, noticed the pattern weaving didn't always go over and under in sequence so I changed that on mine...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your version of this block! Personally, I prefer the folky, off-centeredness of the original designs.
ReplyDeleteI like the folky look myself. This isn't a formal looking quilt, like some of the Baltimores so crooked and off-center seem to fit it better. You did a nice job.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely block Nancy. My applique isn't that good so even if I tried to be perfect the blocks would still be wonky! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love this block! Your fabric choices are good.
ReplyDeleteI would not cut, straighten, or center ANYTHING until all the blocks are on the design wall. This quilt is not two of this and 4 of that.... we know "sort of" how they look, but until we have all of OURS it would be premature to make decisions that involve cutting things that can not be uncut.
ReplyDeleteI think your block looks great - does not matter what another block looks like. Too, some say I did not add this or that, but whose to say they won't add "their" thing once their blocks are on the design wall.... guess that is my theme .... sew on.
I quite like wonky too but mine seem to come out straight. I think your stems look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eveyone for all the nice comments about my bock. I try to make my circles nice and round using petfect circles but after the blocks are washed they seem to have chnged to wonky. Anybody else have that problem?
