#20 is complete.....

I sure hope I haven't made a mistake by going off course with my reds and greens by adding this faded red/rosier color fabric for the basket (even though it is in the same fabric line).  I certainly don't want or need to buy more fabric for this quilt (I could make 2-3 more quilts with what fabric I have left), but I haven't wanted to repeat basket fabrics and I don't think I have any interesting ones left, thus the introduction of the rosier fabrics.

I have incorporated the rosier fabrics in a couple other blocks but only as flower buds. Here's a close up of this  block.

Right now it is bothering me.  I could easily remove it without it hurting the other pieces of applique.

Most of my baskets are red, I think I have one that is taupe and now this one.  I plan on making another one taupe and I have a rosey floral that I could use, but what do you think?  Am I compromising my red and green quilt ....that I wanted so bad?

Three more blocks to go to catch up.....21, 22, and 23.  I think I will work on an easy one just to get one  completed quickly.  Gotta get busy.

  1. I think it looks charming, especially with that background. However, if it is bothering you, and can be replaced so easily, why not wait till the whole quilt top is finished but not put together and judge it again? I find too, I sometimes make poor decisions based on my mood. So don't rush in and change just yet.

  2. I'm with Liz. Wait until you put it with the other blocks. Sometimes, it's my favorite block that has to sit out because it doesn't play nicely and the not so striking ones become key in the piece.

  3. Variety makes it interesting. I too say wait till the end and then decide. You'll probably like it then.

  4. Another vote for taking a wait & see approach if your heart is not quite sure. Beautiful applique Mimi - really like how all the different greens in the leaves look with those sweet little cherries!

  5. Vote 5 for waiting and seeing how all the blocks look together. By itself it is a winner thats for sure!!

  6. I've always been a believer of use a fabric in three places in your quilt. If you make a bud or flower or whatever from it in two other blocks, I think this fabric will fit in just fine. Personally, I really like it here. And to me, the original quilt looks like it was a group project so a fabric here and there that's really different goes with the spirit of the original. But then again, it's your quilt and you're the one who has to like it.

  7. Mimi,
Another vote for waiting and seeing. I personnaly love this block and think it still respects your "red and green" quilt theme. It is just a different value. And if you have used the color in other blocks, then it is already in your quilt - you aren't striking out with something totally different. And sometimes the quilt itself has us changing our original plans for it. I know that has happened to me before and I actually liked the outcome even better!

I can't wait to see the rosey floral in a basket too!

  8. Thank you ladies. I do think I will sit and wait it out. I am not one to "want" to rip out and especially "after" I think the quilt is done, but if it bugs me too much, I may just do it. For now it will sit while I start prepping the next two blocks. Thanks for your compliments and advice.
