making a start

Last Sunday morning was spent preparing my background squares for BTCT. Self discipline lasted long enough to get about 15 cut, squared up and pressed into quarters, before the lure of applique took a hold. After reading some posts about needing to squeeze the pattern onto the background, I elected to cut my squares a little oversized, then they'll be trimmed down later.
This is Block 4 but my first, not interested in doing them in order! I really liked this block and enjoyed the gentle curves of the oak leaves and the fine bias hooks.  Not too time consuming either, one afternoon and two evenings, I can see it feasible to get 1-2 made each month.

  2. It's beautiful, I love your fabric choices. Yes, I think 1 - 2 a month is doable as well. I figured if I got 2 per month I'd be on track by July. I not only made my b.g. blocks bigger, but I stay stitch around the outside edges.

  3. I like your attitude! A nice goal - 1-2 blocks a month. Once I get the deadline Christmas gifts finished - I will be off and running.
Your block is lovely and the more I see of everyone's interpretations, the more I like it. It caught my eye from the beginning. You are off to a wonderful beginning...

  5. After viewing your block, Kate I am so tempted to get started..I am learning a lot of good tips just reading the posts to the site. Making the background pieces larger sounds really good. So am I the only one on the list to the right who has not started my blocks yet? Sharon, we must work on me to get going..LOL. I think that I will also make my backgrounds scrappy as I have a lot of soft prints that I can visualize ..My sister thinks I should try and use the same colors that are in the original..Okay so that just gives me more food for thought..Love seeing all of the photos. Mimi thanks for the email..

  6. Hi Louise, time to commit! Go for your own variation or be faithful to the original - it's your choice, but take the plunge.

Here you will find such a supportive environment because we all realise there is much to learn from each other - there lies the great beauty of blogging that I for one never realised until I joined in. cheers, K
